Description

Many people experience very painful events in their lives. Why do some people survive through hard times or even become stronger, while others struggle for a long time or even seem to be destroyed by their suffering? This film teaches the skills people need to find peace and healing, no matter what disappointments, problems, or traumas they have experienced. It features two deaf therapists explaining these healing skills and narratives by several deaf people who have learned how to apply these skills successfully in their lives. This video is an adaptation of “Practicing Reality Acceptance” one of several DBT Skills training videos by Dr. Marsha Linehan, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) treatment developer. Radical acceptance is a distress tolerance skill in Dr. Linehan’s (1993) “Skills Training Manual for Treating Borderline Personality Disorder.”
