Sangy Panicker, PhD, has more than 25 years of experience addressing ethical, legal, regulatory, and scientific issues related to behavioral and psychological research. Her work spans research ethics and integrity, protections for human research participants, humane care and treatment of nonhuman animals in research, and broader principles of responsible conduct of research. She served for more than two decades as Director of Research Ethics at the American Psychological Association and later as Director of Public Policy and Education Programs at Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R), where she led initiatives at the intersection of research ethics, research regulation, scientific integrity, public policy, and education for the scientific community.
Dr. Panicker is a frequent presenter on research ethics and policy issues and has contributed extensively to publications and educational resources in the field. Her work includes co-editing Laboratory Animals in Research and Teaching: Ethics, Care, and Methods and the Handbook of Research Ethics in Psychological Science, as well as authoring a chapter on ethics and regulation of research with nonhuman animals in the APA Handbook of Research Methods in Psychology. She received the Clifford T. Morgan Distinguished Service Award from the Society for Behavioral Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology in recognition of her contributions to promoting and safeguarding ethical, humane, and scientifically valid research with nonhuman animals.
