“DBT has all of the elements I love in effective treatment. Perhaps first and foremost, DBT is based on science and evidence. DBT also emphasizes emotions and emotion regulation, which is crucial in working with anyone (after all, most people probably go to therapy because of emotions in some way) and particularly essential with people who have complex mental health challenges. DBT also is fundamentally a compassionate treatment. Additionally, DBT is practical, compassionate, and full of straightforward common sense.”
