Adam Carmel, PhD is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington, where he leads the Harborview DBT program and the Addiction Intervention Service at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Carmel is the co-author of two books on DBT-Accepting the Challenges of Employment and Self-Sufficiency (DBT-ACES), DBT-ACES: Skills Training Manual (2021) and DBT-ACES: A Clinician’s Guide (2021), written with Drs. Kate Comtois and Marsha Linehan.

Dr. Carmel received specialized training in DBT while completing a predoctoral internship at Duke University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington. He was previously the Director of a DBT outpatient clinic and partial hospitalization program at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In 2016 he received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching and Mentorship from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Carmel previously served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington, where he taught DBT in the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics under the direction of Dr. Marsha Linehan. Dr. Carmel maintains a private practice in Seattle at the Greenlake Therapy Group. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in Washington and Massachusetts.
