Dr. Hunter-Reel received her BS in psychology from the University of Washington. She then served as research assistant and project manager for Dr. Marsha Linehan at the University of Washington, helping to coordinate several studies examining the efficacy of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Dr. Hunter-Reel went on to complete her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Rutgers University and her clinical internship at the Portland VA Medical Center. She has extensive training and experience with dialectical and cognitive behavioral therapies, as well as specialized training in behavioral and mindfulness-based interventions for disorders involving behavioral and emotional dysregulation. Her research and clinical work is primarily in the area of treatment of individuals with addictions with comorbid personality disorders and suicidality. She works with adults, adolescents, couples, and families struggling with a variety of problems, including substance use, personality disorders, PTSD, interpersonal difficulties, eating disorders, and anxiety and mood disorders. Dr. Hunter-Reel has written a chapter and several peer-reviewed publications and presentations in the areas of personality disorders, addictions, eating disorders, and behavior therapy. She is a member of the Research Society on Alcoholism and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). She also currently serves as research faculty at the University of Washington with Dr. Marsha Linehan where she was awarded a grant to adapt DBT for individuals with alcohol use disorder, and works on a grant evaluating the efficacy of DBT for adolescents.
