Thomas Lynch, Ph.D., is Professor and Director of the Personality and Emotion Biobehavioral Laboratory in the School of Psychology at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. He moved to the UK in 2007 from Duke University where he was the Director of the Duke Cognitive Behavioral Research and Treatment Program from 1998-2007. As principal investigator he has received over 10 million dollars in research funding since 1996- including seven research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH USA), a multi-centre grant from the Medical Research Council (UK), a National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD) research award, an American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) research award, and a John A. Hartford Foundation grant. He is considered a senior DBT researcher and trainer- including acting as principal investigator on large clinical trials- such as, a multi-site study of DBT for BPD with opiate dependence (Linehan & Lynch) and a multi-centre study of RO-DBT examining mechanisms of change that is on-going in the UK funded by Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation programme and National Institute for Health Research- Project REFRAMED. He is a recipient of the John M. Rhodes Psychotherapy Research Endowment, and is a Beck Institute Scholar.
